■ Community: 'Don't Let the Light Go Out'

Tomorrow (Dec. 1) at 7 p.m., Congregation Beth Am hosts a free interfaith event to mark both the first night of Hanukkah and World AIDS Day. Songs, candle-lighting and a presentation by author Ruthann Richter will be among the activities at Beth Am, which is at 26790 Arastradero Road in Los Altos Hills. ■ Theater: 'A Christmas Memory'

TheatreWorks premieres the new musical "A Christmas Memory" this month, starting with an 8 p.m. preview tomorrow (Dec. 1) at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto. Previews continue on Dec. 2 and 3, and then the show runs Dec. 4-26. The musical is based on a Truman Capote story about a boy and his friendship with an elderly relative. Tickets are $19-$67. The 33rd Annual Palo Alto Weekly Short Story Contest is now accepting entries for Adult, Young Adult (15-17) and Teen (12-14) categories. Send us your short story (2,500 words or less) and entry form by March 29. First, Second and Third Place prizes awarded in each category.
