■ Talk: 'Smashing Protons'

Tonight (Nov. 30) at 7:30 p.m., David Miller of the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory will give a free talk called "Smashing Protons: First Physics at the LHC" at SLAC's Panofsky Auditorium, 2575 Sand Hill Road, Menlo Park. Miller has recently returned from the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland, and will share pictures from the LHC, where collisions between protons are recorded. Audience members at the event must show a form of identification (such as a driver's license) for entry, but the event is open to the public and parking is free. ■ Arts: Holiday pottery sale

Vases, sculptures, bowls and other functional and decorative items are for sale today (Nov. 30) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the holiday pottery sale held by Foothill College's ceramics department and the student Claybodies club.
