Students and graduates of the Palo Alto High School choirs kicked off the holiday season in traditional fashion Friday, singing their annual “alumni concert” at Stanford Shopping Center.

Dressed in Renaissance costume, the choir’s Madrigal Singers started off the singing and later were joined by Madrigal alumni for a rendition of P.D.Q. Bach’s “Throw the Yule Log On, Uncle John.”

Other choir groups — and later all choir alumni who cared to participate — also sang, ending with favorites “Deck the Halls,” “Good King Wenceslas” and “Silent Night.”

Choir director Michael Najar conducted part of the concert holding his son in one arm.

Choir members will perform at events throughout the holiday season, including later this week at the San Francisco conference of the California School Boards Association.

The group invites members of the community to its annual Madrigal Tea and Dinner performances coming up Dec. 10, 11 and 12.
