Menlo women win, will host Cal Pac volleyball semifinals

The Menlo College women's volleyball team will host the semifinal match of the Cal Pac Conference tournament Thursday at 7 p.m. following upsets by both lower seeds on Tuesday night.

The fourth-seeded Oaks swept third-seeded host Bethany, 25-23, 25-21, 25-13, at Redwood Auditorium in Scotts Valley, while No. 5 Simpson surprised No. 2 William Jessup in four sets, 26-24, 21-25, 25-21, 25-13, at the Warrior Dome in Rocklin.

Menlo (11-16) and Simpson (7-20) split their regular-season meetings, each winning at home. The Oaks have won four straight since losing a nonconference match at UC Santa Cruz on Oct. 26.

Shelby Goldman leads the conference with an average of 4.6 digs per set. Mia Ortiz and Selina Bumb share the team lead with 86 kills each, while Amanda Sutter, Briana Moreno and Stephenie Monderine each have between 72 and 79.

Chanel Coleman led Simpson past the Warriors, recording 15 kills and five solo blocks. Kelly Brown added 11 kills and 11 digs.

Thursday's winner advances to the Cal Pac tournament championship match against host Holy Names on Saturday.
