Woo-hoo! The Giants win it all

Go ahead, say it. It's no longer mere fantasy or sheer folly to do so.

A rare mix of veteran rejects and budding stars completed an unlikely ascent to the Major League summit Monday night, allowing all to repeat a six-word phrase never before heard: World Series champion San Francisco Giants.

The Giants made franchise history with a 3-1 triumph over the Rangers in Game 5 of the World Series, ignoring their underdog status to capture the 106th Fall Classic, four games to one.

Vote no on proposition 23. Send those greedy Texas oil companies packing, just like the Texas Rangers.

Rejects? Come on that's a little harsh isn't it.

How can they be World champions when the rest of the World didn't take part?

US Champions would be a better description.

First off, Go Giants! What an amazing season and what a great group of guys.
Second, I am also getting a little tired of the "rejects" line. Its kind of become an inaccurate cliche about the Giants, along with misfits. I think above all, this team had great chemistry, professionalism but also a great sense of humor to stay loose.
Third, the term "World Series has been in use for at least a century, so its probably time to move on. However, there are players in the league from different parts of the world, most predominately Latin America and Japan. Playing for MLB allows the superstars of individual countries to compete on a global level. Also, it would hardly be practical for dozens of teams to play 6 months of games all over the world, in different time zones and climates.

Whatever its called, the Giants are super awesome. I will cherish last night for years to come.

There are 2 different baseball world championships in which dozens of foreign national teams participate: the Baseball World Cup and the World Baseball Classic. Japan won the World Baseball Classic last year. The USA won the last World Cup.
