■ Talk: 'The Cosmic Distance Ladder'

UCLA mathematics professor and Fields Medal winner Terence Tao gives a free talk at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Oct. 6) on methods of measuring distances from Earth to the sun and moon, and in places more remote. ■ Exhibition: 'Celebrating Mexico'

A new exhibition at Stanford University's Green Library marks the bicentennial of Mexico's independence with a display of books, photos, movie posters, manuscripts, postcards and other materials.
