Cardinal senior Press earns national women's soccer honor

Stanford senior forward Christen Press earned National Player of the Week honors from TopDrawerSoccer.com after her five-goal weekend at the Santa Clara Classic.

Press scored or assisted on six of the Cardinal's eight goals in winning the four-team event. She was named Most Valuable Player.

Press had three goals and one assist in the first 32 minutes of Stanford's 6-1 victory over Utah on Friday. It marked the first collegiate hat trick for Press, who estimated that her last hat trick came for her teenage club team, the Slammers, or for her high school team, Chadwick in Palos Verdes Estates.

With an assist in the match, Press totaled seven points to become the first Stanford player to reach that in a match since 1994.

Press followed with two goals in a 2-0 victory over No. 15 Georgetown, giving her 10 goals this season, tying her for the national lead. Press moved into a tie for second on Stanford's all-time scoring list and is third on the school career goals list.

Football

"Inside Sports with Jim Harbaugh", Stanford Football's weekly look inside of the Cardinal gridiron program, will this week feature quarterback Andrew Luck, cornerback Richard Sherman and center Chase Beeler on Monday at 8 p.m. at Gordon Biersch.

Normally aired live on XTRA Sports 860 AM, due to the A's game, the one-hour broadcast will play on Tuesday at noon.
