■ Exhibition: ‘Home is When I Belong’

German-born artist Heike Liss, who lives with her husband and children in California and Europe, is exhibiting photographs taken in hotel rooms, exploring the notions of home and belonging. Another series of photos looks at family structures in and around Oakland. The artwork is on view at the Clayman Institute, Serra House, 589 Capistrano Way, Stanford University, through Oct. 15. ■ Film: ‘180 Degrees South’

Tonight (Sept. 8) at 7 p.m., the Palo Alto Patagonia store at 525 Alma St. hosts a free screening of “180 Degrees South.” The film follows American adventurer Jeff Johnson as he tries to re-create a 1968 roadtrip made by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard from Southern California to Patagonia.
