Folsom High senior wide receiver-defensive back Jordan Richards committed to Stanford on Thursday, for the 2011 season according to thebootleg.com.
One of 22 prep seniors to extend a verbal commitment for 2011, he also became the first player in next year's class to be admitted to Stanford.
"Stanford had everything I was looking for in a school and though it's still early, I knew I wouldn't find a better fit," Richards told ESPN.com. "I really like the direction the football program is going in. and I'm excited to have my decision out of the way early."
Richards rushed for 492 yards, caught 53 passes for 883 yards and recorded 55 tackles at Folsom in his junior year.
Richards apparently chose Stanford over UCLA when he found out his admission status.
Stanford players elected senior wide receiver Ryan Whalen, senior nose tackle Sione Fua and senior fullback Owen Marecic as team captains it was learned Friday.
"It was the deepest pool of really quality candidates we have had, which makes you feel great about the leadership on this team," Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh said. "We have tri-captains this year; three terrific captains and wonderful guys. Ryan Whalen on offense, Sione Fua on defense, and Owen Marecic on both offense and defense. There is no honor greater than being elected captain of your football team by your teammates."
