Palo Alto police are investigating a reported home-invasion robbery in the 3100 block of Morris Drive Friday afternoon (Aug. 27), Lt. Sandra Brown reported.
A 78-year-old man was home alone when he responded to a knock at the door at about 3:30 p.m., Brown said. Three men -- one armed with an automatic weapon -- rushed the resident, punched him in the face and bound him as they ransacked his house, she said.
The man's wife arrived home around 5 p.m. and immediately called police, though the suspects had fled, Brown said. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The first suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 20 to 25 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall, heavyset and wearing a blue sweatshirt. The second suspect was described as a
Hispanic male, 20 to 25 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall and with a muscular build.
The victim could not recall details about the third suspect, Brown said. Brown said police have not determined if anything is missing from the house or what the men might have been looking for. The police investigation is ongoing and additional information will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
