Damaged transformer leaves merchants powerless

Power outage leaves 17 customers on California Avenue without electricity

A damaged transformer took out power at a busy stretch of California Avenue Wednesday at about 3 p.m., though the outage was not expected to last long and most power had been restored by 4:30 p.m.

The power outage took place on the 300 block of California Avenue. It affected 17 customers in the busy commercial district. Utilities Department Assistant Director Dean Batchelor said during the outage that he expected power would be fully restored to all customers by about 5:30 p.m.
