East Palo Alto shooting leaves youth wounded

Police seek leads in Sunday morning altercation, shooting

East Palo Alto police are investigating a Sunday morning shooting that left a 17-year-old male wounded in the leg.

Police were alerted about the shooting by the "Shotpotter" system and arrived at the location, near 224 Daphne Way, shortly after midnight.

Police said the gunshots followed a fight between two groups of people. During the course of the altercation, one person pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots into the crowd.

One of the people in the crowd was apparently struck by the gunfire in his "lower extremities," according to a police statement. The victim was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound and listed in stable condition.

The suspect in the shooting has not been identified as of Monday morning. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Matafanua "Nua" Lualemaga at 650-464-6838 or the East Palo Alto police anonymous tip line at 650-851-8477.

How can you shoot into a crowd multiple times and only hit one in the leg? He needs to go to Marine Corps Boot Camp!
