USA junior men win another volleyball match


The United States boys' junior national volleyball team made it two in a row, beating Martinique, 25-14, 25-11, 25-11, Tuesday at the NORCECA Men's Junior Continental Championship in Gatineau, Quebec.

The Americans and Mexico meet Wednesday to determine first place in Pool C.

"I thought we weren't that crisp early on," USA coach John Hawks said. "We missed some serves and we weren't executing at the net. But I give our guys credit for their resiliency. I thought that they battled hard and we got back on track with a nice run of points."

Everybody on the U.S. roster appeared in the match, and everybody scored at least one point. Stanford incoming freshman Brian Cook recorded a point on a kill in the third set.

"We know it's going to be a lot tougher and we are going to have to go out with a lot more fire than we did," U.S. captain and middle blocker Dylan Davis said. "That was not our best volleyball and we all know that."

Mexico won both of its first two matches in straight sets.
