• Jazz: Jamie Davis

Tomorrow (Aug. 12), jazz singer Jamie Davis will perform with his quintet at the Stanford Shopping Center, presented by SFJAZZ. Davis, a baritone, has released three solo albums. The free concert begins at 6 p.m. at 180 El Camino Real in Palo Alto. Go to sfjazz.org.

• Theater: Staged reading

Tomorrow (Aug. 12) at 8 p.m., TheatreWorks' New Works Festival presents a staged reading of Bill Cain's new play "How to Write a New Book for the Bible." The play-in-progress is an autobiographical account of a caregiver's struggles with family, life and saying goodbye. The reading will be held at Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto. Tickets are $15. Call 650-463-1960 or go to theatreworks.org.
