Today's events (Aug. 9)

• Art: Marguerite Fletcher

Palo Alto painter Marguerite Fletcher's spiritual approach to art is reflected in two series of oil paintings she currently has on exhibit at Cafe Borrone at 1010 El Camino Real in Menlo Park. The "Reveille" and "Five Luminous Mysteries" series of paintings -- all ethereal, some inspired by the teachings of Buddha -- can be viewed during cafe opening hours through Aug. 22. For more information, go to cafeborrone.com.

• Jazz: Kristen Strom

Bay Area saxophonist Kristen Strom gives a free performance today (Aug. 9) from 6 to 8 p.m. on Main Street at Broadway in downtown Redwood City. Strom has played with artists including Jimmy Heath, Natalie Cole and Manhattan Transfer. For more information, call 650-780-7340 or go to redwoodcity.org.
