• Children's theater: 'Androcles and the Lion'

The Palo Alto Children's Theatre presents a theatrical retelling of the Aesop fable "Androcles and the Lion" tonight (July 28) through July 31 at 6:30 p.m. The performances are outdoors, with hot dogs for sale, on the Roy A. Tonight (July 28) at 7 p.m., Lisa Gardner gives a free author talk about her suspense book "Live to Tell" at Books Inc., 855 El Camino Real, Palo Alto. The prolific author's books often explore police procedure and forensics. Also, State Sen. Joe Simitian will be presenting Books Inc. with "small business of the year" award.
