Palo Alto Babe Ruth 15s reach NorCal Tournament semifinals

All-star baseball team advances with a 5-0 victory over Hayward

Winning for the second time in two days, the Palo Alto Babe Ruth 15-year-old all-stars advanced to the semifinals of the NorCal State Tournament at Wilson Field in Vallejo.

Palo Alto next will play Woodland on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., with a victory earning the local baseball team a berth in the championship game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. A challenge game, if necessary, will follow 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game.

Palo Alto posted a 5-0 victory over Hayward on Sunday. It was a 0-0 game until the top of the sixth when Palo Alto loaded the bases for Clay Carey, who responded with a two-run double to provide the eventual winning runs. Christian Kadash added a two-run single in the inning for a 4-0 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Michael Fraser walked and Eric Tam came in to pinch run. Tam drew a throw to first, which got away and allowed him to reach second base safely. Andrew Lim followed with a run-scoring single for a 5-0 lead. Palo Alto loaded the bases but couldn't get another run in.

Nick Wells, who came on in relief of starter Luke Thomas in the sixth, retired the side in the bottom of the seventh -- striking out the final batter in fitting fashion to preserve the shutout.

As 13s and 14s, Palo Alto has faced Hayward in the NorCal State Tournament four times, and endured tough losses each year.

I think he said that, Nick -- "As 13s and 14s, Palo Alto has faced Hayward in the NorCal State Tournament four times, and endured tough losses each year."
