YMCA celebrates diversity at Saturday event

Ventura Center in south Palo Alto to host Multicultural Celebration noon to 4 p.m.

Belly dance, ballet folklorico, bhangra and hip hop are some of the offerings planned for the Multicultural Celebration at the Ventura Center in Palo Alto this Saturday (July 10).

The Palo Alto Family YMCA is hosting the free event at 3990 Ventura Court from noon to 4 p.m.

The event will be a celebration of life, culture and diversity, said Scott Glissmeyer, executive director of the Palo Alto Family YMCA.

In addition to dance, the Multicultural Celebration will include food, beverages, a car show, a bounce house and other activities.

Ventura is a teen activity center that offers "a fun and safe environment after school," Glissmeyer said. It strives to help local teenagers by offering a wide variety of free activities and resources throughout the year.

The center is open Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. and has one-on-one tutoring, homework assistance, Internet access, dance and fitness programs and social activities.

Information about the event or center is available by contacting Glissmeyer at sglissmeyer.org or 650-842-7152.
