Middle-aged man robs Menlo Park bank

A man estimated to be about 40 to 50 years old with gray hair robbed the Bank of the West branch at 900 Santa Cruz Ave. in downtown Menlo Park late Friday afternoon, police reported.

The man entered the bank around 4:30 p.m. and handed a note to a teller demanding money, police said. No weapon was seen.

Employees and customers were unaware of the robbery until the man fled from the bank, heading on foot toward University Drive, Sgt. Jaime Romero of the Menlo Park Police Department said.

The amount take was not disclosed. FBI agents were called in to assist with the investigation.

Witnesses described the suspect as white, about 40 to 50 years old, with a slender build and gray hair and gray stubble for facial hair. He wore a baseball cap, a light-colored dress shirt and small rimmed glasses.

Police ask anyone with information to call detective Ed Soares at 650-799-9459 or Sgt. Romero at 650-330-6361.

What's with all the white guys robbing banks these days? There was another one in Redwood City last week. And a string of 4 or 5 in the south bay over the past month. I think all the suspects were middle aged white guys.

Those Unemployment checks were probably still "in the mail"...

And as of late, MANY people are now cut off of benefits~ Better start locking your doors and paying attention ...........times are still getting harder for many....

Good luck finding him. Seems like the perfect crime.

Just because there is a big population doesn't mean that racial profiling can't work.

Another white guy busted for bank robbery. This is a Hillsboro resident who allegedly robbed a bank in Redwood City. The article says he is only 25, but the photo shows a balding guy who sort of looks middle aged. Web Link
