Hundreds of uniformed bicyclists are expected to pedal through Palo Alto this evening as part of an event organized by the San Jose Bike Party, police said.
The bicyclists are scheduled to depart from Sunnyvale at 8 p.m. and travel north through Mountain View and Palo Alto along El Camino Real, according to the group's website. They are then expected to get to Stanford University before turning around and heading back south to Sunnyvale. The ride concludes at Plaza del Sol in Sunnyvale.
Palo Alto police expect the event to delay traffic along the riders' route tonight. Brown said the Palo Alto officers will follow the procession on motorcycles to ensure public safety. The group is expected to wear uniforms for tonight's event.
"Our mission is to provide safety to the community and riders via high visibility," Brown said. "We're expecting more than 200 bikes and this will probably cause some delays."
The group San Jose Bike Party holds events every third Friday of the month. It touts itself on its website as a "place to ride bikes, make friends, and have a good time."
