Budget-related transit cutbacks take effect today

Santa Clara County targets early morning, late-night routes

Changes to bus and light-rail schedules in Santa Clara County prompted by state transit-funding cuts go into effect today.

About 15 of the nearly 75 cutbacks affect lines that reach into the Palo Alto-Mountain View area.

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority said many routes will eliminate early morning or late night service, while others will also experience daytime changes.

Details about the new schedules can be found at www.vta.org/servicereductions.

The VTA stationed staff throughout the county to help passengers navigate the changes. The Customer Service Center can be reached at (408) 321-2300.
