The man killed late Wednesday afternoon by a southbound Caltrain has been identified as Alejandro Escobar Samayoa, 26, of Mountain View, the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office announced Thursday.
Southbound train No. 264 struck and killed Samayoa at about 5:10 p.m. at the station, located at Showers Drive and San Antonio Road, Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew reported.
Preliminary reports indicate Samayoa stepped off the platform and in front of the train as it was passing through the station.
Passengers on train No. 264 boarded another train and bus bridges were set up in coordination with the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority to transport commuters between Mountain View and Palo Alto during peak commute hours.
There have been 17 fatalities on Caltrain tracks this year, according to Bartholomew.
