A Palo Alto High School senior has been arrested for felony vandalism when he parked his car upside down on the lawn of the Paly Quad as an apparent senior prank.
The senior, Daniel Blaine Marchant, 18, reportedly rolled his 1994 Volvo station wagon out onto the lawn between 3:30 and 3:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, and completely stripped it of tires and other accoutrements, Palo Alto police Sgt. Sandra Brown reported.
He also had ground off the vehicle identification number (VIN), apparently in an attempt to conceal his ownership of the vehicle, she said. But officers were able to trace it to him.
A sign on the car's remains read: "'07 Seniors, Thizz or die" -- a reference to the drug ecstasy.
The problem is that the prank caused an estimated $3,000 in damage to the lawn and sprinkler system, Brown reported. There were other reports, however, that the car was left on a deck and no damage was done to the grass or sprinkler system.
Marchant was arrested for felony vandalism and removal of the VIN number, a misdemeanor, and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose.
