Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

When my friend’s daughter turned one, she posted an adorable video online. She took short video clips throughout the day to show what a typical day in her daughter’s life looked like. What was their breakfast routine like? What was playtime like? What was their bedtime routine like? I loved this idea so much that I decided to make one for my son.

Almost 9 years later, I love watching these videos with our kids. It is now a birthday tradition for us to watch these yearly videos around each of our kids’ birthdays. What was a typical day like when they were one, two, or three? What songs did we sing? What parks did we play at? What activities did we go to?

I stopped making these videos for our older kids, but I’m planning to make a couple more for our youngest. Her birthday is coming up and this year her video is going to be quite unique. Over the past year she clearly had many of her normal routines disrupted and she had lots of extra time to bond with her siblings. I hope her video this year helps remind us how close our kids have grown through the ups and downs of the past year together.

It’s hard to know exactly what our kids will remember from this period in their lives. But I hope all of the pictures and videos we’ve taken so far remind them that this unsettling year still had many moments of happiness, laughter and love.
