Humane Society film event this Thursday 12/4

Uploaded: Nov 30, 2014

The Palo Alto Humane Society is holding a benefit event this Thursday, December 4th, at 7pm at the Aquarius Theater, at 430 Emerson downtown.

The event celebrates the 106th anniversary of the Humane Society in Palo Alto. That's a really long time: since 1908!

It's a screening of the 1998 film "Paulie," the story of a talking parrot who goes on a big adventure. Here's what IMDb says about Paulie: "Paulie, a talking parrot, recounts his travels looking for his original owner to a Russian janitor who helps him to the end of his journey." It's rated PG. The cast includes Jay Mohr as Paulie, along with Tony Shalhoub, Cheech Marin, Gena Rowlands, Buddy Hackett, and others.

Admission is $10 and includes free popcorn, soda, and a gift bag. Special guests include bagpiper Jeff Campbell and Mickaboo, a companion bird rescue group.

Tickets are available at the door, or here on Eventbright, or by calling the Humane Society at 650-424-1901. More information about this special holiday event is on their website.

According to the PAHS:

"The Palo Alto Humane Society is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, charitable, volunteer-supported organization. PAHS is one of the few humane societies nationwide with no animal shelter. Instead of managing animals inside a shelter, we work to keep animals out of the shelter through humane programs in intervention, advocacy, and education. For a century, our mission has been to alleviate the suffering of animals, increase public sensitivity to animal issues, and elevate the status of animals in our society."
