Once Covid hit it was sad to put these family outings on hold. However, we are so thankful that we could attend so many wonderful virtual events hosted by our local bookstores over the past year. Even as more in-person activities open up, we are still very excited to attend a few of their upcoming virtual events this spring.
Earlier this week our kids had a wonderful time listening to Guy Raz and Mindy Thomas talk about their new book. Their Wow in the World Podcast has been one of our go-to activities during the pandemic. And last week I enjoyed listening to Los Altos High School students talk with Julie Lythcott-Haims about her new book and growing up. It was inspiring to hear teenagers being so open about the struggles they faced this year. I enjoyed the discussion so much that I hope to also catch her speak at Kepler's virtual event in April.
I am very thankful that we had the chance to listen to a variety of virtual author and storytime events during the pandemic. Linden Tree’s FaceTime storytimes and Kepler’s post-event recordings gave us a lot of flexibility to enjoy events whenever they fit into our schedule. Our kids could enjoy a virtual storytime at one bookstore at the same time I was attending a virtual author event at another.
These storytimes and virtual author events created great memories for our kids during the pandemic. The adult events gave me an opportunity to feel connected to other adults and to our local community. If you haven’t had a chance to attend these virtual events yet, I would recommend checking out our local bookstores’ virtual events coming up this spring.
