Sigh. The homeless need to be treated differently from the " professionally homeless " that are also on the streets holding signs in any larger city. The first deserve compassion, while the latter deserve contempt.
When the cold arrives, these " homeless " leave their chilly cities and travel by bus to the West Coast while the truly homeless fight over the steam grates to keep warm. Some die, rather than give up their addictions to stay in halfway houses that demand they give up their addictions to stay there. They spurn the help offered to make them get addiction free.
The person you talk about here looks like she could climb out of the cycle of homeless, given a real chance to do so. I hope some business offers her a hand up and not just a hand out.
