ART IN CLAY ... The 12th annual Art in Clay Ceramic Art Show & Sale takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 17 and 18, at the Lucie Stern Community Center, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto. More than 70 ceramic artists will participate, with raku, woodfire, sculpture, tableware and decorative art. Admission is free. The event is sponsored by the Orchard Valley Ceramic Arts Guild. NATIVE PLANT SALE ... LEARN TO SEW ... Christine Hopkins will teach a class on "Beginning Sewing" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Nov. 29 to Dec. 13, at the Arrillaga Family Recreation Center, 700 Alma St., Menlo Park. The class will cover how to select and read a pattern, layout and cutting and sewing in class. Cost is $85 for nonresidents, $64 for residents, plus a $5 materials fee payable to the instructor and $20 rental fee for machines, if necessary. Information: 650-330-2200 or www.menlopark.org
HOLIDAY TRADITIONS ... Although many of the events are sold out already, there may be some opportunities left to visit Filoli, at 86 Canada Road, Woodside, for one of the holiday luncheons and shopping boutiques, which run from Nov. 23 through Dec. 1.
