ART CENTER RE-OPENING PLANNED ... The Palo Alto Art Center has set the date ... to officially reopen, that is. After $7.9 million worth of renovations, the center is set to reopen on Saturday, Oct. 6, with a open house of all-ages art activities, live music and dance, art demos, and of course a ribbon-cutting. The center has been closed since April 2011 and is expected to emerge from the construction with revamped exhibition spaces, a new children's wing and gallery shop, and spiffed-up landscaping, lighting, windows and climate-control systems. The open house will go from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1313 Newell Road, and will also include new installations by several artists. For details, go to www.cityofpaloalto.org .
