FRUIT TREE PRUNING ... Certified Arborist Kevin Raftery, who teaches horticulture at Foothill College, will teach a class on "Fruit Tree Pruning" from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Common Ground Education Center, 559 College Ave., Palo Alto. The class will cover how to maximize tree health and identify dead wood, and how to care for espalier. The class meets at Common Ground then proceeds to a local orchard. CUT IT RIGHT ... Steve Cortez will be teaching "Knife Skills - Veggies & Chicken" from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Arrillaga Family Recreation Center, 701 Laurel St., Menlo Park. Bring your own knife set and an apron. Cost is $66 for nonresidents, $49 for Menlo Park residents, plus $10 materials fee due to instructor in class.
