HEALTHY OAKS ... UC Master Gardener David Peterson will talk about "How to Keep Oak Trees Healthy" on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Gamble Garden, 1431 Waverley St., Palo Alto. The free class will deal with protecting urban oak trees from common landscaping errors, e.g., dangerous watering. Topics include compatible planting, oak diseases, sudden oak death, growth habits, watering and how to avoid conditions that can damage native oak trees. GRAY INTO GREEN ... Sherri Osaka, owner of Sustainable Landscape Designs and co-founder of the Sustainable Landscape Roundtable, will teach a class on "Graywater for a Green Garden" on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Common Ground Education Center, 559 College Ave., Palo Alto. The class will cover new codes that allow more flexibility in watering a garden with graywater, as well as assembling and maintaining an inexpensive system. Cost is $31. CANDY MAKING ... Just in time to make holiday gifts, Yannette Fichou Edwards will teach "Candy Making for the Holidays" on Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Palo Alto High School, Room 103, 50 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto. She'll teach — through demonstration, participation and sampling — how to create Chocolate Bourbon Balls, White Chocolate Peppermint Bark, Classic English Toffee and Peanut Brittle. Barnes will be using natural materials, including dried greens, autumn leaves and flowers; participants are asked to bring a bowl or basket (not tall vases).
