SENIOR HOUSING CONFERENCE ... Avenidas will hold its fourth annual housing conference on Saturday, April 2, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Oshman Family JCC, 3921 Fabian Way, Palo Alto. The conference offers a choice of three workshops, which deal with downsizing, renting vs. owning, creating an aging-friendly home, moving into a retirement community, and continuing-care communities. MAKE YOUR OWN PASTA ... Monica Spiller, from Whole Grain Connection, which supplies wheat seed to California organic farmers, will teach a class on "Making Pasta and Tortillas from Sonora Wheat" on Saturday, April 2, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Common Ground Educational Center, 559 College Ave., Palo Alto. Participants will learn to make the pasta of the Italian and Chinese California gold miners of 1849, as well as whole-wheat tortillas from Mexico. Cost is $31. COOKING CLASSES ... FREE FABRIC ... The next FabMo free fabric distribution event is Thursday, April 7, 4:30 to 8 p.m.; Friday, April 8, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, April 9, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appointments are required, to help manage the crowds (E-mail gather.fabrix@me.com with preferred date and time), but some drop-in hours are included. The distribution, with a requested donation, takes place at a warehouse in Mountain View; directions and map are included in the confirmation e-mail. Volunteer greeters and sorters are also needed. NAME THOSE PLANTS ... A class designed to broaden one's plant palette — "Herbaceous Landscape Plant ID" — will be offered at Filoli, 86 Canada Road, Woodside, on Saturday, April 16, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The class will cover how to recognize plants in different landscape settings, at various stages of maturity.
