FALL CHECK LIST ... UC Master Gardeners will talk about fall maintenance on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Palo Alto Demonstration Garden, 851 Center Drive. They will cover tasks to do now to prepare for the next gardening season, including a garden review, tips and tools and demonstrations. ARTISTRY FAIRE ... The Palo Alto Buddhist Temple will hold its Annual Artistry Faire on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2752 Louis Road, Palo Alto. WHOLE GRAIN ... Monica Spiller, founder of Whole Grain Connection, will discuss "Goldminers' Wheat and Bread" on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Common Ground Education Center, 559 College Ave., Palo Alto. Spiller will demonstrate "mashing" and "making a sponge" to create old-fashioned barm sweet-sourdough bread. The class includes home barm stock and recipes. Cost is $31. THAW AND GO ... Cindy Roberts will teach a class on how to make "U-Thaw Appetizers" on Monday, Nov. 8, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Palo Alto High School, Room 103, 50 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto. The idea is to create appetizers weeks in advance, freeze them, then pop them in the oven moments before serving. Menu includes Spanakopita, Mushroom Sausage Strudel and Bacon-Cloaked Cheesy Dates.
