TREASURE HUNTING … FabMo will hold its next free designer fabric distribution on Friday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2423 Old Middlefield Way, Mountain View. THE DIRT ON DIRT ... Theresa Lyngso, who grew up in the family business Lyngso Garden Materials, Inc. and has been brewing actively aerated compost tea for six years, will talk about the "Soil Foodweb" on Saturday, Oct. 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Common Ground Education Center, 559 College Ave., Palo Alto. HOLIDAY FOODS ... Cindy Roberts will teach how to cook "The Ultimate Thanksgiving" on Monday, Nov. 1, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Yannette Fichou Edwards will offer a class on preparing an "Elegant Holiday Dinner" on Tuesday, Nov. 2, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The Thanksgiving class will offer both traditional and contemporary recipes, including No-Fail Stuffing, Shiitake Mushroom Gravy and Mashed Potatoes with chilis and jack cheese. The holiday dinner features dishes that can be prepared ahead, including Dates Stuffed with Smoked Almonds and Bacon, Potatoes Parisienne and white chocolate Coeur a la Creme. Both classes, which are held in Room 103 at Palo Alto High School, 50 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto, and cost $50, include demonstration, participation and sampling. GARDEN MAINTENANCE ... Ella Ancheta, Gamble Garden's garden manager, will talk about "Fall and Winter Garden Maintenance" on Friday, Nov. 5, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Gamble Garden, 1431 Waverley St., Palo Alto. Topics include garden clean up, soil preparation, mulching, tool maintenance and plant division. Ancheta will also help assess home gardens, identifying what thrived and what didn't, to help plan for spring. Cost is $40 for nonmembers, $30 for members.
