Mark Christine

Mark Christine, 88, a former resident of Palo Alto, died in his sleep from heart failure Aug. 18.

He had been living in Chandler, Ariz., for the past two years with his son Michael and daughter-in-law Bobbie. He lived in the Greenmeadow neighborhood of Palo Alto until his recent move to Arizona.

After service in the Navy in World War II, he enrolled in Stanford University. Following graduation he was an athletic coach and teacher at Jordan Junior High School from 1952 to 1986. During those years he also worked in the wood shop at Hewlett Packard. He was known locally as a basketball referee and entertainer. He entertained at children's parties making balloon animals, and at retirement homes with his musical whistling program.

He is survived by his son, Mike Christine, and daughter, Patti Christine, both Cubberley High School graduates and residents of Chandler, Ariz.

John Paul June

John Paul June, 56, a former resident of Palo Alto, died unexpectedly while on a business trip to Monterey Sept. 7. He had been residing in Austin, Texas.

He was an active businessman in Carmel, Calif., for 30 years as the owner of John Paul Painting. He was loved and respected by all for his exceptional work and his endearing personality and community generosity, loved ones said.

He was a talented musician recognizable for his left-handed bass-guitar playing. He was the bass player for "Alligator and the Bayou Boogie Band" for 17 years as well as being an accomplished song writer and guitar player.

He will be remembered for his kind and loving nature, his loyalty and love and his exceptional talent as a musician.

A celebration of his life will be planned at a later date.

He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Paul of Carmel, Calif.; his brother, Michael Paul of Santa Cruz, Calif., his ex-wife Minnie Marshall of Eugene, Ore.; his girlfriend, Julie Thomte of Austin, Texas; and many friends.

My goodness, Mr, Christine was my PE coach in 1971. Most adolescent boys give their PE teachers heck, and I'm sorry the kids gave Mr. Christine so much grief. He sounds like he was an interesting man. Sorry to hear about his passing. Condolences to you Mike.

Any postitive comments are welcome. Our dad Mark spanned a few generations of Jordan students. Even with the normal teasing by students, Dad loved his work and spent countless hours after school with his coaching. He was very involved with the early days at HP also, entertaining at the picnic's and for various family functions. We hope he will be remembered fondly.
