ANNUAL ROSE SHOW ... The Peninsula Rose Society will hold its annual rose show on Sunday, May 2, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Redwood City Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Ave., Redwood City. HOT DISHES ... Palo Alto Adult School will offer a couple of cooking classes that focus on different ethnic palates: Yannette Fichou Edwards will teach a "Mexican Fiesta" class on Tuesday, May 4, and Ramesh and Bharati Joshi will offer "Indian Cooking" on Wednesday, May 5, both from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Palo Alto High School, Room 103, 50 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto. Each class costs $50. Delectables include homemade guacamole, tortilla soup, Baja shrimp with green chilis and tequila, and Mexican chocolate cake; or chicken curry, pullae (rice), puri (fluffy bread), chole (spicy garbanzo beans) and aaloo gobi (potatoes and cauliflower). FILOLI FLOWER SHOW ... "Filoli Goes to the Movies: Celebrating Films Through Flowers" is the theme for Filoli's annual flower show, May 6 through 9. More than 60 floral designers create flower arrangements and table settings to complement Filoli rooms or to make garden vignettes. Tickets for the opening night reception on Thursday, May 6, are $75 members, $85 nonmembers, $200 patrons. General admission for the flower show on Friday, May 7, through Sunday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. is $20 members, $25 nonmembers, $10 for children ages 5 to 17. A TOUCH OF HISTORY ... A benefit for the Los Altos History Museum will be held at the former Dawson estate, now home of Cindy and Gaymond Schultz, on Friday, May 7, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Called "A Premier Spring Evening: Celebrating Historic Living," the event will include live music, food and wine, and a tour of the property that includes the owner's woodworking shop and 35-car garage (complete with vintage cars). The 18,000-square-foot Mediterranean estate was built in 1936 by C. Earl Dawson, who funded the First National Bank of Los Altos building and helped incorporate Los Altos Hills.
