The eighth-ranked Stanford women's tennis team defeated visiting Boise State, 7-0, in a nonconference match Wednesday, extending the longest active home winning streak in any collegiate sport to 155 matches. The last time the Cardinal lost at home, Monica Lewinsky was still in the news. It was also the only time (Feb. 27, 1999) California beat the Cardinal at Taube Tennis Center. Among Stanford's singles' sweep was a 6-3, 6-1 win on court six from Jennifer Yen, who was making her first appearance overall since Jan. 16. Stanford (6-0) returns to action next Wednesday against visiting Hawaii at 1:30 p.m. The Stanford men's tennis team will host Boise State on Friday at 1:30 p.m., before hosting Cal on Saturday at 1 p.m.
NEW COACHES . . . Former Stanford coach Ron Turner is back in town and joins Jim Harbaugh on the Cardinal football coaching staff along with Derek Mason, it was announced Wednesday. In addition, three other current coaches had their duties redefined. Turner, a former assistant coach at Stanford and the former head coach at San Jose State and Illinois, will serve as quarterbacks and wide receivers coach. Mason, who spent the last three seasons as the assistant defensive backs coach with the Minnesota Vikings, will serve as defensive backs coach. Greg Roman has been promoted to associate head coach and will also serve as assistant head coach of the offense. He will continue to work with the offensive tackles and tight ends. David Shaw, who has worked with the wide receivers for the past three seasons, will work with running backs in addition to continuing as offensive coordinator. Lance Anderson, who has worked with the defensive tackles for the last three seasons, will assume coaching responsibilities with the outside linebackers and will continue in his role as recruiting coordinator.
