POST-CHRISTMAS CLEAN-UP ... Live Christmas trees (not the plastic varieties) may be cut into 4-foot lengths and left at the curb in Palo Alto on regular trash-collection day — minus the tinsel, ornaments, tree stands and nails. Pick-up scheduled for New Year's Day will be done on Saturday, the next day. Trees may also be dropped off at no cost at the compost area of the city's landfill, at the east end of Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto, until Feb. 1. Sandbags will be available at the Palo Alto Airport (end of Embarcadero Road) and Mitchell Park, 600 E. Meadow Drive, Palo Alto.
