Tall, talented recruits for women's team

The 1997-98 women's college basketball season isn't officially under way for Stanford quite yet, but the roster already is full for 1998-99.

Cardinal coach Tara VanDerveer signed four high school All-Americans to national letters of intent on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.

"We are very excited about this year's group," said VanDerveer. "I think this is one of the most talented and athletic teams we've signed. All four players add a different dimension to our game and will fit in our up-tempo game well."

For the second straight year, Stanford's recruits will bring size to The Farm. The tallest is 6-foot-7 Cori Enghusen from Bothell, Wash. She averaged 14 points, 16 rebounds and nine blocks as a junior.

Lindsey Yamasaki, a 6-2 guard from Oregon City, Ore., is one of the nation's best basketball/volleyball athletes. As a junior she averaged 21 points and nine rebounds, helping her team to a third straight state title.

Enjoli Izidor, a 6-0 forward from Seattle, averaged 18.5 points and 10 rebounds last season. Lauren St. Clair, a 6-0 guard/forward from Flowertown, Pa., is rated second best in the country at her position by one recruiting service.
