The Palo Alto girls soccer team will be hard-pressed to defend their Christmas tournament, now that standout junior Brooke O'Hanley is sidelined with a broken foot.
O'Hanley, one of the top players in the Central Coast Section and the Vikings' offensive leader, suffered the broken bone during the second half of Paly's 2-1 nonleague loss to San Mateo last week. The match was tied until O'Hanley went down, the Vikings' intensity going to the sidelines with O'Hanley. Jen Tracy scored Paly's goal.
The Palo Alto Tournament begins Friday. Among the entrants will be Gunn, which battled San Mateo to a 1-1 deadlock last week. Sonja Perakis scored off an assist from Erika Alfredson for the Titans' goal.
Menlo-Atherton, meanwhile, had a good week of soccer and finished tied for third in the 32-team Remberg Classic in Fresno.
After going 3-0 in pool play, the Bears (7-1) blanked Buchanan High of Stockton, 1-0, on a goal by Paula Belfiore off an assist from Katianne Allred.
That victory sent M-A into the quarterfinals, where the Bears' march was halted by a 2-0 loss to eventual champion St. Mary's of Stockton.
Allred and Karin Ostrander were named to the all-tournament team.
Elsewhere, Castilleja and Carlmont battled to a 2-2 tie in nonleague play.
