Dirksen, the Gunn High senior, will begin defense of her crown Nov. 16 against Pinewood School's No. 1 player, Lexi Robertson.
Dirksen's road to the finals--probably against No. 2 Colleen Cheng of Burlingame or No. 3 Lisa Walgenbach of Santa Catalina--seems almost a lock since Dirksen already has beaten the best players in her half of the draw.
On her way to winning the SCVAL De Anza Division singles title last week at Cuesta Park in Mountain View, Dirksen knocked off fifth-seeded Kim Guy of St. Francis in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-0, and then polished off No. 4 seed Carrie Townsend of Homestead in the finals, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).
Others in the CCS singles draw are Menlo twins Tracy and Lauren Cheung. The Menlo doubles team of Heidi Robinson and Michelle Bittner received the No. 1 seed. All CCS action will be held at Courtside in Los Gatos.
