HAMBURGER HAVEN . . . In-N-Out Burger, the popular Southern California hamburger chain that has been slow to migrate north, has announced plans to build a restaurant in Mountain View. The restaurant, scheduled to be open in March will be located at 1159 Rengstorff Ave., near Highway 101. It will have seating for 70 people and will employ about 60 workers. In-N-Out has about 125 restaurants in California and Nevada. It was founded in 1948.

QUESADILLAS ANYONE . . . Left at Albuquerque, 445 Emerson St., Palo Alto, is celebrating another southwestern fest by serving a different quesadilla every day between Sunday, Nov. 16, and Sunday, Nov. 30. The restaurant will be putting all sorts of tastes between two tortillas, from grilled tequila shrimp to barbecued chicken and french onion strings to pumpkin seed pesto and four cheeses. Intriguing quesadilla options include green chile carnitas with salsa rajas on Nov. 19; chorizo, potato and artichoke hearts on Nov. 21; and "seven-alarm" chile chicken on Nov. 26. The restaurant will be closed for Thanksgiving. Call 326-1011.

GOING KOO KOO ROO . . . Koo Koo Roo, a Southern California staple for take-out chicken, opens its second Northern California fast-food restaurant at 295 Main St., Los Altos, today, Nov. 14. Koo Koo Roo, which also has a location in downtown Menlo Park, offers such home-style cooking items as skinless flame-broiled chicken, fresh-roasted, hand-carved turkey, rotisserie chicken, made-to-order salads and healthy side dishes prepared every 20 minutes. FEEL GOOD FOOD . . . Spago Palo Alto, 265 Lytton Ave., Palo Alto, will co-host a series of benefit events prior to its much anticipated public opening on Monday, Dec. 15. On Tuesday, Dec. 9, Spago Palo Alto will co-host a luncheon with the San Francisco 49ers Foundation to benefit the East Palo Alto Academy--call (408) 562-4949--followed in the evening by a cocktail reception for the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children--call 497-8540. On Wednesday, Dec. 10, the restaurant will host a luncheon for Community Foundation Silicon Valley--call (408) 278-0270--and that evening there will be a dinner for the Stanford University Museum of Art--call 725-4240.
