POLICE: Woman arrested in murder case

Police say transient woman stabbed her boyfriend to death

Menlo Park police have arrested a 22-year-old transient woman in the stabbing death of her boyfriend.

Stephanie Rochelle "Sunshine" Jackson, 22, walked into the Menlo Park Police Station at 8 a.m. Sept. 13 and turned herself in. She was booked into San Mateo County Jail on a murder charge.

She is accused of killing Frederick Sims, 32, of East Palo Alto while they apparently argued and struggled inside a car at Bayfront Park in Menlo Park on Sept. 9, said Police Commander Dominick Peloso.

"The motive is still under investigation and consideration," Peloso said. "There apparently was an argument involved. The suspect had been the victim's girlfriend for approximately 18 months."

Peloso also noted, "There were no guns or shots involved," a reference to an earlier report in at least one newspaper which said that the victim had been shot to death. "This particular error had an effect of unduly scaring citizens when there was no reason for it," Peloso said.
