DRUG-FREE JAMBOREE . . . The 1997 Annual Menlo Park/East Palo Alto Red Ribbon Week, which promotes drug awareness and a drug-free community, will start next week. The two cities will host a parade and are looking for individuals and groups who would like to participate in the parade Oct. 25 beginning at the Belle Haven School at 10 a.m. and ending in East Palo Alto. EMBRACE ESTRANGEMENT . . . So writes adolescent expert Michael Riera. Riera, author of "Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers," will speak Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at Foothill's Smithwick Theatre about a '90s approach to parenting. Family Service MidPeninsula and Bay Area Parent Magazine are sponsoring the event to support the Parental Stress Hotline, TeenLine and other family educational services. Tickets are $15. FINANCES AND FASHION . . . A luncheon to raise money for the educational foundation of the Menlo-Atherton branch of the American Association of University Women will feature financial advisers and accountants--all women--speaking about women and money.
