AUTUMN AWARDS BREAKFAST . . . The MidPeninsula Hospice Foundation will hold its annual Autumn Awards Breakfast on Thursday, Oct. 27 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Hyatt Rickeys in Palo Alto. Best-selling author Robert Fulghum will give a talk and present awards to 10 individuals who have contributed greatly to the MidPeninsula Hospice. PRE-SCHOOL FUN DAY . . . Preschool Family Children's Carnival and book and bake sale will be held on Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4120 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto. Events include a puppet show, train rides, storytelling and a grand prize drawing. Refreshments and live music are provided. Proceeds will benefit the school. ANNUAL DAY OF SERVICE . . . The Stanford Volunteer Network will hold Reach Out Today '94 on Oct. 29, a daylong community service event that sends nearly 800 Stanford students to 26 local organizations in need of volunteers. LOCAL CANDIDATE FORUMS . . . Cable Channel 6 (Mid-Peninsula Access Corp.) will air three local candidate forums and one initiative discussion on Oct. 29 to help voters with their decisions before election day. Forums include the Menlo Park City Council at 4 p.m., the Ravenswood School Board at 5 p.m., the "three strikes" initiative at 6 p.m. and the 21st Assembly District and 14th Congressional District at 7 p.m. For more information, call 494-8686.

AUTHORS RAISE FUNDS . . . Authors of fiction, poetry, mystery and children's literature will read passages from their books and sign books purchased that day at the third annual C.A.R. Authors Luncheon on Oct. 29 at Hyatt Rickeys in Palo Alto. Authors Richard North Patterson, Sandra Scofield, Louis B. Jones, Jane Hirshfield and Patricia Polacco will be featured. Printers Inc. of Palo Alto will provide all books sold at the event and will donate 20 percent of sales to the Community Association for Rehabilitation. For tickets and information, call 494-0550.

INFORMATION NIGHT AT M-A . . . Menlo-Atherton High School Information Night will be held Nov. 15 at 7:15 p.m. in Menlo-Atherton's Multipurpose Room, 555 Middlefield Road at Ringwood Avenue.
