PLUG YOUR EARS . . . The annoying "beep-beep-beep" of trucks' backup warnings on El Camino Real had Atherton residents up in arms, until Caltrans, which is in the midst of a repaving project on a three-mile stretch of Highway 82, came up with a simple solution: earplugs. The small foam rubber earplugs, when inserted properly, should help to drown out the sound until the project is finished in October.

SQUIRRELS LIVE, GETTING FAT . . . And on a final note, the folks at Wildlife Rescue of Palo Alto wanted us to know the condition of two baby squirrels featured in a Palo Alto Weekly story May 11. Wildlife Rescue Publicity Director Brad Milliken wrote to say that the squirrels are recovering nicely and are "actually getting rather fat." The story outlined what residents should do when they find young squirrels and baby birds whose homes have been chopped down by tree trimmers.
