WAITERS ON WWW . . . Now you can stop for a bite to eat on the information superhighway. Palo Alto's Sunnyside Computing, Inc. and Waiters On Wheels have started the first Internet-based restaurant delivery service. Using Sunnyside's World Wide Web Quartermaster server technology, you can now order from any one of the more than 250 restaurants served by Waiters On Wheels in 25 cities. Waiters On Wheels can be accessed on-line at the WWW address of: "http://sunnyside.com/wow".

PLANNING AHEAD . . . Today at 6 p.m., Fidelity Investments will hold a free retirement planning seminar at its Palo Alto Investor Center, located at 251 University Ave.

INGENEX GRANT . . . Menlo Park-based Ingenex, Inc. has been awarded a $100,000 small business research grant from the National Institutes of Health. The grant will fund the development of genetic suppressor elements to treat HIV and the identification of human genes which might be involved in resisting HIV infection.

HAMMER TIME . . . If you're looking for a new vehicle but car dealerships give you the heebie jeebies, you might want to try an auto broker. Robert Hammer of Hammer Auto and Cellular, which recently opened at 2285 El Camino Real in Palo Alto, says he has access to any make and model vehicle you could want, at the best prices and without the pressure of shopping at regular dealers.

A NATURAL ACQUISITION . . . The natural foods industry is growing like wheat grass. Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods Market, which has four stores in the Bay Area including one in Palo Alto, has acquired Bread of Life Store, which has two similarly styled natural foods supermarkets in Cupertino and Campbell. In addition to the 40 stores currently in operation nationwide, Whole Foods has another 16 in development.

MAPPING OREGON . . . Menlo Park-based Etak, Inc., which publishes digital maps, has signed a database licensing agreement with the state of Oregon that will make it one of the first state governments in the country to provide a uniform map database to every city, county and state agency. Government offices will use the database for planning, surveying, tax assessment, vehicle scheduling and routing, public safety and environmental protection. "This contract is a landmark agreement for a software vendor and is an example of the way government and private industry will be working together in the future," said John Rehfeld, president and CEO of Etak.
