Local artists Joyce Vincenti and Mary Jane Johnston exhibit their works through March 8 at Los Altos Hills Town Hall Chambers, 26379 Fremont Road, Los Altos Hills. Exhibit hours are Monday through Friday, 1-5 p.m. Call 941-7222.

Hearts 'n Hounds, the Palo Alto Humane Society's second annual Sweetheart Stroll, takes place from 3 to 5 p.m. at Byxbee Park at the east end of Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto. Bring your favorite canine Valentine for a beautiful walk in the Palo Alto Baylands with other dog lovers. Tickets for this fund-raiser are $10 per person. Pre-registration is required. Palo Alto singer Marjorie-Jean performs for the first time in five years at 8 p.m. at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, Castro and Mercy streets, Mountain View. Tickets are $15 general, $12.50 seniors and students with ID, and $7.50 for children 12 and under. Call 903-6000.

On Friday, we tackle the two latest exhibits at the Palo Alto Cultural Center, "Timothy Berry: Pageant" and "Of Princely Courts and Pleasure Gardens: Indian Miniatures." "Timothy Berry: Pageant" is a mid-career survey of the artist's paintings, prints and drawings. "Of Princely Courts and Pleasure Gardens: Indian Miniatures" is comprised of 50 gem-like, opaque watercolor paintings, spanning the 16th to 19th centuries.

To film his new movie, screenwriter Charles Koppelman wanted to find a place that had a brooding, eerie, almost other-worldly quality. He chose East Palo Alto. The film, an independent production called "Dumbarton Bridge," was shot last month in Whiskey Gulch and in the salt marshes half a mile away. Read about this film and why it was shot locally.

Menlo Park resident and musician Kim Baker is trying to ride the current wave of women folksingers. She's found the going a little tougher than she originally envisioned. Nonetheless, he first album, "On Her Own," came out this month. Baker tells readers how she did it.
