Police logA retired police officer sustained serious injuries when he was run over by a car at the corner of El Carmelo Avenue and Waverley Street Friday. Otto Neihues, 74, suffered head and rib injuries in the accident, which occurred at around 1:45 p.m. on Feb. 6, according to Sgt. Paul Egin. The driver of the car, Caroline A. Macey, was unharmed.A Stanford student retracted her statement to police that she was sexually assaulted in her dorm room Tuesday, Feb. 3, a spokeswoman said. The student told police that an assailant entered her Roble Hall room between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and attacked her while she was sleeping. The student reportedly retracted her statement Thursday. A Stanford student was assaulted in the bathroom of a Casa Zapata dorm on Sept. 14, just before the fall semester began, and the suspect remains at large, police said. Police Chief Marv Herrington cautioned students and other members of the Stanford community to lock their room doors when alone, walk in groups at night or call 725-SURE for an escort. A man died from a suspected drug overdose in East Palo Alto on Friday, Jan. 30, according to San Mateo County Det. Doug Steiner. Scott McKay, 40, was found dead on the floor of his apartment at 1830 West Bayshore Road at around 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 30, said Steiner. There were no signs of forced entry, he said. Toxicologists are testing McKay's body for traces of cocaine, according to Steiner. A 97-year-old woman lost control of her car in Safeway's parking lot in Menlo Park Friday, sending her car airborne before it crashed into two parked cars, police said. The woman told police that her car accelerated suddenly for no apparent reason, crashing through the fence at the north end of the Safeway parking lot on El Camino Real and sending the car sailing 28 feet into the underground parking lot in front of Payless drug store, said Cmdr. Dominick Peloso. The car then traveled another 22 feet before crashing into two parked cars, he said. The speedometer was stuck on 25 m.p.h. when it was towed, according to Peloso. The woman was not seriously injured, and the case is still under investigation, Peloso said.
