Palo Alto police arrested a transient man Oct. 7 on suspicion of attempted rape. David Wormley, 41, was arrested after an 18-year-old woman told police that Wormley sexually assaulted her, said Sgt. Scott Wong. The woman and her girlfriend had been invited to the man's camp in the 600 block of Waverley Street the night before, and the woman awoke at 2:48 a.m. to find the man lying on top of her, Wong said. After a brief struggle, the woman was able to get away with the help or her friend, he added. Police were uncertain if the woman was also homeless.

Menlo Park police are searching for a man who assaulted a woman Oct. 2. Police Commander Dominick Peloso said the man got into an argument with an East Palo Alto woman in an apartment in the 1200 block of Willow Road at 9:30 a.m. "There was a dispute over missing money and clothes, and he wouldn't take no for an answer," Peloso said. The man allegedly hit, kicked and choked the woman, attempted to stab her with a pair of scissors, and then hit her with a folding chair, Peloso said. The woman suffered abrasions and a possible leg injury, but she declined medical treatment at the scene, he added. Police are not releasing the woman's name, nor that of the man. "We have a suspect we're looking for," Peloso said.
